What is a Prime Number?
Consider
the table below,
It
is clear from the table above that the numbers 2, 3, 5, 7 ... have two
numbers as their factors. Such numbers are called Prime Numbers. Therefore
a Prime
Number is counting number having exactly two factors, one
and itself.
Note that numbers that have more than two factors are called composite
numbers. E.g. 4, 6, 8 and so on.
NB:
this it can be helpful.
Prime Factorization:
When
we talk of Prime Factorization, it is the way of expressing a number as a
product of prime number. “Factor tree” could be used to find the prime
factorization of numbers.
This is often used and most people enjoy it! For example to find the prime factorization of 42 and 48 using the factor tree.
